    Whitney Houston's daughter released from L.A. hospital

    Whitney Houston’s daughter was out of the hospital Monday after being taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for an undisclosed medical emergency.

    The Beverly Hills Fire Department responded to a call Sunday morning at 10:20 a.m. involving Bobbi Kristina Brown, CBS2 reported. Brown, 18, is the daughter of Whitney Houston, who was found dead Saturday in her room at the Beverly Hilton.

    Woman killed in hit-and-run near Forest Lawn cemetery

    Authorities are seeking information about a hit-and-run accident that killed a 66-year-old woman as she stopped to care for an animal lying in the road near Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills.

    Zina Feeley, 66, had parked her 2006 Lincoln Town Car along the north shoulder of the 6000 block of Forest Lawn Drive about midnight Saturday, City News Service reported citing authorities.

    Searchers comb eastern San Diego County for clues in O.C. murder

    About 150 searchers Saturday combed a rugged area in eastern San Diego County in hopes of finding clues in the disappearance and death of a Laguna Beach Internet advertising executive.

    Orange County prosecutors have charged Edward Youngboon Shin, 33, with the 2010 murder of his business partner, Christopher Ryan Smith, 32. Smith's body has never been recovered.

    Gunman opens fire in Hollywood club, wounding at least five

    A gunman opened fire on the dance floor of a Hollywood night club early Sunday, wounding at least five people, authorities said.

    The shooting occurred at about 1:50 a.m. on the 5200 block of Sunset Boulevard, police said. The wounded were taken to hospitals.

    Traffic stop leads sheriff's deputies to $1-million marijuana stash

    A routine traffic stop early one morning last week led Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies to an estimated $1 million worth of marijuana and nine arrests, authorities said.

    Deputies pulled over Harry Kaladjian, 29, at about 2 a.m. Thursday, near the intersection of 40th Street West and Avenue D in Lancaster, authorities said. The deputies discovered that Kaladjian, of Lancaster, was driving with a suspended license and was on active probation.

    Determining how Whitney Houston died is expected to take time

    While an autopsy on pop star Whitney Houston could occur in the next day, it is likely to take weeks before the L.A. County coroner's office makes an official cause-of-death ruling.Both the Beverly Hills Police Department and Los Angeles County coroner's office are investigating Houston's death. No cause has been established, and authorities said Saturday night it's too early to determine whether she died of natural causes."There were no obvious signs of criminal intent," Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen said.

    The school was doing better on test scores, student activities and parental involvement. Charges against two teachers suddenly threaten those gains.

    Until the photos surfaced, it didn't appear that anything was seriously amiss at Miramonte Elementary School.

    Whitney Houston's body moved from hotel to morgue

    Whitney Houston's body was moved Sunday morning from the Beverly Hilton hotel to the L.A. County morgue, where an autopsy will be performed.

    Video showed a coroner's van pulling out of the hotel, where Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. Saturday.

    Crime alerts for Beverly Grove, Venice and 11 other L.A. neighborhoods

    Crime reports are up significantly in 13 L.A. neighborhoods, according to an analysis of the latest week of LAPD data by the Los Angeles Times’ Crime L.A. database.

    11 neighborhoods reported a significant increase in violent crime. Beverly Grove (A) was the most unusual, recording six reports compared with a weekly average of 1.6 over the last three months.

    Venice (L) topped the list of two neighborhoods with property crime alerts. It recorded 33 property crimes compared with its weekly average of 20.8 over the last three months.

    Alerts are based on an analysis of crime reports for Feb. 2–Feb. 8, the most recent seven days for which data are available.

    Whitney Houston's entourage found her unresponsive, police say

    Whitney Houston was found unresponsive in her room at the Beverly Hilton by members of her entourage.At a news conference Saturday night, a Beverly Hills Police Department spokesman said people in Houston's party called paramedics. Some firefighters were already in the hotel working a gala Houston planned to attend, and they tried to revive her.

    Police provided no further details on her death, other than to say there were no signs of foul play.

    Union accepts district assurance that teachers can return to Miramonte

    The Los Angeles teachers union has backed off from its claim that teachers transferred from Miramonte Elementary School won’t be allowed to return upon completion of an investigation into alleged child abuse.

    The union, United Teachers Los Angeles, had said Thursday that it was planning to file grievances to protect the rights and reputations of teachers who have done nothing wrong.

    Trial to begin in slaying in Rose Bowl parking lot

    The trial for a Duarte man accused of fatally shooting his brother at the Rose Bowl in 2011 is slated to begin Tuesday in Pasadena.

    Clifton Ashley Cass, 57, is charged with shooting Victor Cass, who was 57 when he died. The shooting followed a dispute in the early-morning hours of Feb. 28 in the parking lot of the stadium.

    Thieves posing as DWP workers dupe 82-year-old, police say

    Two men posing as L.A. Department of Water and Power employees stole $6,200 in cash from an 82-year-old East Hollywood man after duping him into believing they had come to his home to collect a bill, police said.

    The two men approached Hzsaya Hasegawa about 7:30 p.m. Friday at his home in the 400 block of North Commonwealth Avenue, police said. The men said they were there to collect a bill, and Hasegawa went to get some cash, police said.

    'Speed Freak Killer' was paid $33,000 to guide search for victims

     Guided by a serial killer on death row, San Joaquin County sheriff's deputies and public works employees were digging Saturday at suspected dumping grounds in two counties in search of the remains of victims of the notorious "Speed Freak Killers."

    Condemned serial killer Wesley Shermantine, 45, drew maps of where he and late accomplice Loren Herzog buried as many as 20 victims of their drug-fueled murder spree that began in the mid-1980s and terrorized San Joaquin and Calaveras counties for more than a decade. Shermantine gave up the information in exchange for $33,000 provided by Sacramento bounty hunter Leonard Padilla, Padilla told The Times.
